Simplifying, you get 24a+48=18a-36. Then you subtract 18a from both sides, 6a+48=-36 Then subtract 48 from both sides, 6a=-84. So divide both sides by 6 and you get a=-14.

    8 x 3a + 8 x 6 = 9 x 2a - 9 x 4

    24a + 48 = 18a - 36

    -18a - 48 = 6a = - 84 Divide - 84 by 6 gives you a = - 14
