Solving equations with variables on both sides of the equal sign

2a-8a=12-8a

    You want to put the variable on one side only, then solve.

    2a - 8a = 12 - 8a

    if i add 8a to both sides, - 8a + 8a = 0, so im left with:

    2a = 12

    a = 12/2

    a = 6
