    So the equation is:

    x - 357 / x = 32 / 100

    (cross multiply)

    100 (x - 357) = 32x

    100x - 35700 = 32x

    (subtract 100x from both sides)

    -35700 = - 68x

    525 = x

    so the sofa was originally $525
