    Answer: Martha spend $537.25 in june to have the same average as in the first quarter.

    Step-by-step explanation:

    Given that,

    Average monthly expenditure for the first quarter = $396.25

    Expenditure in April = $401.50

    Expenditure in May = $250.00

    Suppose, expenditure in June = x

    To have the same average as in the first quarter, we have to take the average of the second quarter equals to the average of first quarter.

    So,

    Average monthly expenditure for the second quarter = $396.25

    Using the formula of average for monthly expenditure for second qaurter as follow:

    Average monthly expenditure for months April, May, and June = Sum of expenditure of April, May, and June divided by 3.

    So,

    396.25 = (401.50 + 250.00 + x) / 3

    1188.75 = 651.5 + x

    x = 537.25
