To rent a certain meeting room, a college charges a reservation fee of $42 and an additional fee of $7.60 per hour. The math club wants to spend less than

$110.40 on renting the meeting room.

What are the possible amounts of time for which they could rent the meeting room?

    T = hours

    42 + 7.6T < 110.40

    subtract 42 from each side

    7.6T < 110.40 - 42

    7.6T < 68.4

    divide each side by 7.6

    T < 9

    T > = 0 as well because you cannot rent less than 0 hours

    0< = T < 9 hours

    42 + 7.60T ≤ 110.40 and the answer would be everything less than nine hours and including nine hours so 0-9 x<9
