    1) write a linear system - let a = boxes of apples and b = boxes of bananas

    a + b = 86

    32a + 16b = 1968

    2) solve - use substitution

    a = 86 - b

    32 (86 - b) + 16b = 1968

    2752 - 32b + 16b = 1968

    -16b = - 784

    16b = 784

    b = 49

    a + 49 = 86

    a = 37

    37 boxes of apples and 49 boxes of bananas
