    Let shortest peice be x in long

    middle piece = x + 5 in

    longest piece = x + 9

    x + x + 5 + x + 9 = 59

    3x + 14 = 59

    3x = 45

    x = 15

    so shortest piece is 15 in middle piece = 20 in and longest piece = 24 in.
