Write a two column proof.

Given: 7y=8x-14; y=6

Prove: x=7

    7y = 8x - 14

    7y = 7 (6) Reason : Given

    7y = 42

    8x - 14 = 42 Reason: Because 8x - 14 equals to 7y

    8x = 42 + 14 Reason : Because we flip 14 on to the other side of the equation thus it becomes opposute of what it was.

    8x = 56

    * = 7

    Substitution Property - 7 (6) = 8x-14

    Distributive Property - 8x-14=42

    Addition Property - 8x=56

    Division Property - x=7
