    area for triangle = 1/2 x b x h

    area = 120

    height = 15

    120 = 1/2 * b * 15

    divide both side by 1/2

    240 = b * 15

    divide both sides by 15

    b = 240/15 = 16

    base is 16 inches

    check: 1/2 * 16 * 15 = 120 sq. in.

    The formula for the area of a triangle is Area=.5 (b) (h)

    So fill in what you know:

    120=.5b*15

    Then solve for b.

    120=7.5b

    b=16
