Melinda had $45 when she went to the mall. She spent $9 on a pair of sunglasses. Then she wants to buy some shirts that are on sale for $12 each. Write and solve an inequality to represents the number of shirts can buy

    First set up the inequality.

    12x + 9 < = 45

    subtract 9 from both sides

    12x + 9 - 9 < = 45 - 9

    12 x < = 36

    divide both sides by 12

    x < = 3

    She can buy at most 3 shirts
