    1 3/8 lbs. 2 1/2 = 2 4/8. (8/8 is 1 lb) 2 4/8 + 8/8 = 3 4/8 add 3/8 to equal 3 7/8. You have added 1 3/8 lb to 2 1/2 lb to make 3 7/8 lbs.
