    3x + 4y = 8 ... subtract 3x from both sides

    4y = 8 - 3x ... now divide both sides by 4

    y = 2 - 3/4x ... rearrange

    y = - 3/4x + 2

    y = mx + b

    y = - 3/4x + 2

    as u can see, the number in the m position (the slope) = - 3/4
