Brad purchased a bag of apples for $2 and b pounds of bananas for $0.50 per pound. He spent a total of $3. The total price of his purchase is represented by the equation 0.5b + 2 = 3. What was the total number of pounds of bananas that Brad purchased? Show how you got your answer.

    0.5b+2=3

    0.5b=3-2

    0.5b=1

    b=2

    so brad purchased 2 pounds of bananas
