    Given:

1 3/4 cups of raisins for one batch of muffins

Adrian needs to make 2 1/2 batches of muffins for bake sale.

Convert the mixed fractions into improper fractions:

    1 3/4 = ((1*4) + 3) / 4 = 7/4

    2 1/2 = ((2*2) + 1) / 2 = 5/2

    Multiplying fractions:

    1) Multiply numerators

    2) Multiply denominators

    3) Simplify answer

    7/4 * 5/2 = 7*5 / 4*2 = 35/8

35/8 can be simplified into a mixed fraction 4 3/8

Adrian needs to use 4 3/8 cups of raisins.
