The sales of a particular brand of children's athletic shoes rose from $4,800,000 to $5,400,000. Find the percent of increase in sales. Round to the nearest tenth of a percent if necessary

    To find the percent of increase or decrease, find the amount of increase or decrease first. Do this by subtracting the new minus the old:

    5,400,000 - 4,800,000 = 600,000

    Now we divide this by the original amount to find the percent:

    600,000/4,800,000 = 0.125.

    Multiply this by 100 to get it in terms of a percent:

    0.125 (100) = 12.5%.
