    5 (x - 3) = 15

    mutiply the bracket by 5

    (5) (x) = 5x

    (5) (-3) = - 15

    5x-15 = 15

    move - 15 to the other side

    sign changes from - 15 to + 15

    5x-15+15 = 15+15

    5x = 15+15

    5x = 30

    divide by 5 for both sides

    5x/5 = 30/5

    Answer: x = 6
