    I'm going to consider that you already know how to solve a system of equations:

    If we consider the screwdrivers as the variable "X" and the flashlights as the variable "Y", then the equations would be as follows:

    X+Y=100

    1,25X+0,85Y=99

    Then: X=100-Y,

    so 1,25· (100-Y) + 0,85Y=99

    125-1,25Y+0,85Y=99

    26=0,4Y

    26/0,4=Y

    Y=65, which means that 65 flashlights were given that day, and 35 screwdrivers.
