    Let the number be x,

    (1/2) x=1 + (1/3) x

    Solving for x,

    (1/2) x - (1/3) x=1 + (1/3) x - (1/3) x

    (1/2) x - (1/3) x=1

    (1*3/6) x - (1*2/6) x=1

    (3/6) x - (2/6) x=1

    (1/6) x=1

    6 * (1/6) x=6*1

    Therefore, x=6

    (1/2) x = (1/3) x + 1

    - (1/3) x - (1/3) x

    (1/6) x=1

    *6 * 6

    x=6

    And so x=6, or your number is 6
