    The answer is 42. let X = a number.

    1/3X-6=8

    3 (1/3x) - 3 (6) = 3 (8)

    X-18=24

    (you have to cancel the - 18 by adding 18, and what you do to one side you have to do to the other, so now its 24+18)

    X=42
