A gift box is a rectangular prism14inches long, 5inches wide, and 4inches high. If the box is to be covered in fabric, how much fabric is needed if there is no overlap?

    That's the surface area

    when he length=L

    width=W

    and height=H

    SA=2 (LW+WH+LH)

    so

    L=14

    W=5

    H=4

    subsitute

    SA=2 ((14) (5) + (5) (4) + (14) (4))

    SA=2 (70+20+56)

    SA=2 (146)

    SA=292

    you need 292 square inches of fabric
