The table shows how much a carpenter charges for work. Is the relationship shown by the data in the table linear. Explain your answer.

hours worked Amount Charged ($) 42394 2 40 3 60 4 80 my answer is: 40-25 = 15 60-40 = 20 80-60=20 15=/20 It is linear because the lines would be in a straight line.

The table is a little unclear at the beginning value; however, a linear equation has a constant rate of change. This means that the carpenter's cost per hour should remain the same. As much of the table is visible:

    2 hours = $40

    3 hours = $60

    4 hours = $80

This means that the carpenter charges a constant $20 per hour and this is why it is a linear equation and will form a straight line (constant slope)
