You first multiply both sides by 8/3, then subtract 9 on both sides leaving you with the answer, which is - 59.666666 repeating or - 59 and 2/3.

3/8s + 27/8 = - 19
3/8s = - 19 - 27/8
3/8s = - 152/8 - 27/8
3/8s = - 179/8
3/8s / 3/8 = - 179/8 / 3/8
S = - 179/3
I believe this is the value for s.
