    You first multiply both sides by 8/3, then subtract 9 on both sides leaving you with the answer, which is - 59.666666 repeating or - 59 and 2/3.

    3/8s + 27/8 = - 19

    3/8s = - 19 - 27/8

    3/8s = - 152/8 - 27/8

    3/8s = - 179/8

    3/8s / 3/8 = - 179/8 / 3/8

    S = - 179/3

    I believe this is the value for s.
