Madelyn has $4000 more invested in 4% fruit-and-vegetable stocks than she has invested in 7% oil stock. If the total annual income from these stocks is $1172, how much does she have invested in oil stocks?

    So the two equations would be

    a = 4000 + b

    0.04a + 0.07b=1172

    a being fruit and vegetables, b been oil

    Then you substitute a in, and the answer is b = 9200, so $9200.
