Kim rented a bike from Kayla's bikes. It cost $20 Plus $8 per hour. If Kim paid $52, then she rented the bike for how many hours?

    x = the number of hours

    write an equation of the problem: 8x + 20 = 52

    subtract 20 from each side: 8x = 32

    divide each side by 8: x = 4

    she rented the bike for 4 hours.
