    Your first step is to balance the oxygen in the equation. It is often best to start with whichever element you have the most of.

    You balance the oxygen by multiplying O2 by 3 and KClO3 by 2.

    1) 2KClO3 - - > KCl + 3O2

    Next you must now balance the Potassium and Chlorine atoms. To do this, simply multiply the KCl by 2.

    2) 2KClO3 - - > 2KCl + 3O2

    Now you have 2 Potassium, 2 Chlorine and 6 Oxygen on each side of the equation.
