    P=2 (L+W)

    P=24

    24=2 (L+W)

    12=L+W

    Length is 3 greater than width

    L=3+W

    subsitute

    12=3+W+W

    12=3+2W

    minus 3

    9=2W

    divide by 2

    4.5=W

    sub back

    L=3+W

    L=3+4.5

    L=7.5

    the rectangle is 7.5cm long and 4.5cm wide
