-you have to solve for y; keep y by itself on one side of the equation
-you start by subtracting 4x on both sides (to get rid of it on the left side of the equation). you end up with - y = - 4x+6
-y must be positive when it is alone, so to make it a positive, you have to divide both sides of the equation by - 1. you end up with y = 4x-6
-so now that we have y by itself and positive, we can identify the slope. (the slope will always be what is right next to x, in this case it is 4). so the slope is 4
