Treat x^4 as (x^2) ^2 and factor as you normally would.

    (x^2+9) (x^2-1)

    X^4 + 8x^2 - 9

    = (x^2 + 9) (x^2 - 1)

    = (x^2 + 9) (x + 1) (x - 1) Answer
