Keelie has a triangular-shaped card. The lengths of its sides are 3.6 cm, 4.5 cm, and 5.4 cm. Is the card a right triangle?

    Pythagoras theorem states that the sum of the square of the opposite side and the square of the adjacent side is equal to the square of the hypotenuse side.

    Hence where a, b, c are the opposite, adjacent and hypotenuse side respectively,

    a² + b² = c²

    3.6² + 4.5² = c²

    c² = 12.96 + 20.25

    = 33.21

    c = √33.21

    = 5.76 cm

    Since the result above is not 5.4 cm, the triangle is not a right triangle
