An architect designs a door that is 3.5 feet wide for a house under construction. The contractor reduces the width of the door to 3.25 feet. 12 inches make 1 foot. By how many inches does the contractor reduce the width of the door?

    3 inches because he took off one forth of a foot. if a foot is 12 inches and you take off one forth, it would be like dividing 12 by 4. This would give you an answer of 3 inches.
