    7r+8p - (5-rp-rp) where r=3 and p=4

plug in 3 and 4 for r and p where it says in the equation

    7 (3) + 8 (4) - (5 - (3) (4) - (3) (4))

    multiply

    21+32 - (5-12-12)

    21+32 - (-19)

    two negatives make a positive

    21+32+19

    =72
