the perimeter of a rectangle is 36 ft. The length is 4 ft more than the width. Calculate the length and width of the rectangle.

    Length = 4 + w.

    So,

    2 (4 + w) + 2w = 36.

    8 + 2w + 2w = 36.

    4w = 36 - 8.

    4w = 28.

    4w/4 = 28/4.

    w = 7.

    L = 4 + w.

    L = 4 + 7.

    L = 11.

    (Verify: 2 (11) + 2 (7) = 36, 22 + 14 = 36, 36=36)
