What is the answer to p-1=5p+3p-8

    combine the like terms: 5p and 3p to make 8p

    now you want to have everything over to one side, so add the 1 and subtract p to the right side.

    you should now have 7p+7=0. Now take the GCF which is 7 and divide it by both terms. now you should have 7 (p+1) = 0.

    Begin your tree chart and set 7=0, which is not a solution so cross it off. Then solve p+1=0. Subtract one on both sides and p = - 1.
