    First we need to find the beats per minute of the first song. 12 seconds needs to be converted to 12/60 minute, which is 2/10 minutes: 0.2 minutes.

    The 4.2 minute song had 462 beats.

    462/4.2 = 110 beats per minute.

    The second song has 3 min 54/60 min = 3.9 min.

    Therefore 3.9 x 110 = 429 total beats.

    4 minutes and 12 seconds is the same as 4.2 minutes

    12/60 = 0.2

    4 + 0.2 = 4.2

    462 beats in 4.2 minutes means 110 beats per minute

    462 / 4.2 = 110

    y = 110x

    3 minutes and 54 seconds is the same as

    54/60 = 0.9

    3 + 0.9 = 3.9

    y = 110 (3.9)

    y = 429 beats
