It is not A. because 8 is not a prime number.

It is not B. because 12 is not a prime number.

    C. 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 = 4*4*6 = 96

    D. 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 x 3 = 4*4*6*3=16*18 = 288

    Answer is C. - 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 3 : 96 (not D. = 298, 298 is greater than 96)

The answer is C. If you divide 96 by 2 and 3, they will both give you a whole number which indicates 2 and 3 are both factors of 96. You can easily do this by process of elimination.
