    48

    Step-by-step explanation:

    m - (1/3) m - (1/4) (2/3) m = 24

    m - (1/3) m - (1/6) m = 24

    m - (2/6) m - (1/6) m = 24

    m - (3/6) m = 24

    m - (1/2) m = 24

    (1/2) m = 24

    m = 48

    No of marbles left = 24

    No of marbels John got = 24/3 = 8

    No of marbles John and penny all together had=24+8=32

    No of marbles Rebecca got = 16

    No of marbles in the beginning = 16 * 3 = 48
