You have 7 5/8 feet of yarn to make a bracelet. You only use 4 1/8 feet for the bracelet. How much yarn is left over?

    3 5/8 - you just turn them into an improper fraction and subtract them that way leaving the denominator the same. Once you do that you simplify the fraction

    7 5/8 - 4 1/8 = 3 4/8 = 3 1/2 yarn was left
