If Jose has n books, Lynn has n+4 books

when Lynn gives Jose 6 books her total number of books changes by - 6 so it becomes: n+4-6 = n-2

Jose gains 6 books so his total becomes: n+6

    We can minus Jose's books from Lyn's books total to get the difference: (n+6) - (n-2) = n - n + 6 - -2 = 8

Therefore Jose has 8 more books than Lynn.
