    2m + 5 = 5 (m - 7) - 3m

    2m + 5 = 5m - 35 - 3m

    2m + 5 = 2m - 35

    2m + 5 - 5 = 2m - 35 - 5

    2m = 2m - 30

    2m - 2m = 2m - 2m - 30

    0 = - 30

    0 does not equal - 30 - so this is an inequality - cannot solve for m

    2m+5=5 (m-7) - 3m

    first, use distributive property ...

    2m+5=5m-35-3m

    next, combine like terms on the right side ...

    2m+5=2m-35

    next, subtract 2m from both sides.

    2m+5=2m-35

    -2m - 2m

    you will get ...

    5=-35 in which is not true. This means the equation has no solution.
