    if you plug it in, it should look like this, (let x be the hypotenuse since we are trying to find it)

    3^2 + 4^2 = x^2

    so if you square it, it should look like this

    9+16 = x^2

    then its

    25=x^2

    we have to bring the square to the other side, so in order to get rid of it we have to put a radical on top of 25

    then you have to find two of the same numbers that times to equal 25 which is 5

    so x=5
