    Expand

    simplify x - 5x + 35 to - 4x + 35

    subtract 35 from both sides

    simplify - 7 - 35 to - 42

divide both sides by - 4

    two negatives make a positive

    simplify 42/4 to 21/2

    Answer: x = 21/2.
