A train left ambler at 9:00 am traveling 50 mph. at 1:00 a private plane left wings field and traveled in the same direction at 300 mph. at what time did the plane overtake the train?

    Alright, so in the 4 hour difference, the train went 50*4=200 miles. The equation for the train can be 50x (x being hours_, and the plane can be 300x-1200 (since it missed out on 1200 miles by leaving 4 hours late). We have to figure out when 50x=300x-1200. Subtracting 300x from both sides, we get - 250x=-1200 and 250x=1200, Dividing both sides by 250, we get x=4.8 That means it's 4.8 hours after 9 - 4 hours after 9 is 1, and since a tenth of an hour is 60/10=6 minutes, 8 tenths is 6*8=48 minutes. 1:48 is your time
