The answer for this problem is 14.825

    Step-by-step explanation:

There are about three steps for this problem

The first is finding out what is 45% of 3.5 yds. You do this by multiplying 3.5 and. 45 and you get 1.575

The second step is finding the second carpets length. All you have to do is add the number we got from multiplication which is 1.575 to 3.5 and you get 5.075. The reason we added those numbers is because the problem says the second carpet is 45% "longer" than the first carpet.

The third and final step is to add up all three values and you get 14.825!
