    Dogs / cats : 4/3 = d / 45 ... 4 dogs to 3 cats = d dogs to 45 cats

    cross multiply because this is a proportion

    (3) (d) = (45) (4)

    3d = 180

    d = 180/3

    d = 60

    so when there is 45 cats, there is 60 dogs
