A transformation can be defined as a change about a figure, such change could be around its dimensions, its size or its position.

So, a transformation can involve a translation, a rotation, a stretch or a compression.

We can classify these transformations as rigid and non-rigid. Rigid transformation refer to those that won't change the size or shape of the figure, it will just translate or rotate them.

On the other hand, the non-rigid transformation involve a change about the size or shape, it could be a stretch or a compression.

Therefore, a geometric figure can be transformed about its size, shape or position.

The position is transformed through translation, rotation or reflection. The shape and size are transformed through dilation or compression.
