    A + b + c = 140 (a = first, b = second, c = third)

    c = 4a

    a = b - 8, so b = a + 8

    so now

    a + b + c = 140

    a + a + 8 + 4a = 140

    6a + 8 = 140

    6a = 140 - 8

    6a = 132

    a = 132/6 = 22

    b = a + 8 = 22 + 8 = 30

    c = 4a = 4x22 = 88

    answer:

    a = 22, b = 30, c = 88

    a (first number) + b (second number) + c (third number) = 140

    c = 4a

    a = b - 8, so b = a + 8

    Next

    a + b + c = 140

    a + a + 8 + 4a = 140

    6a + 8 = 140

    6a = 140 - 8

    6a = 132

    a = 132/6 = 22

    b = a + 8 = 22 + 8 = 30

    c = 4a = 4x22 = 88

    The answer is:

    a = 22, b = 30, c = 88
