At a local bookstore, the ratio of nonfiction to fiction books is 3:5. If the bookstore recieves an shipment with 27 nonfiction books, how many fiction books can be excepted in the shipment?

    Set up a proportion for this problem

    non-fiction to fiction = 3/5

    If he gets 27 non - fictions, you can set up a proportion.

    3/5 = 27/x Cross multiply

    3x = 5 * 27 Divide by 3

    x = 5 * 27/3 Divide

    x = 5 * 9

    x = 45

    Answer: There should be 45 fiction books.
