In winter, the price of apples suddenly went up by $0.75 per pound. Sam bought 3 pounds of apples at the new price for a total of $5.88.

    3 (p+0.75) = 5.88

    then divide both sides by 3 which would give you p+0.75=1.96

    then subtract o. 75 from each side to get

    p (original price) = $1.21 per pound
