What is the first step in solving quadratic equations by finding square roots?

    So first you have to make sure the equation is in standard form which is: ax^2 + bx + c = 0

    so if you have for example:

    4x-12x=9

    it would look like this in standard form:

    4x-12x+9=0

    after you put it in standard form you submit the values of A, B and C into the formula, in this case:

    A = 4, B = - 12, C=9
