    First you have to give the number a name. Call it Bob.

    6 more than 7 times Bob is 41.

    (7 Bob) + 6 = 41

    Let the number be y.

    7 times the number means 7y.

    therefore, 6 more than 7y is 41 means

    6 + 7y = 41.

    Further simplification:

    6 + 7y = 41

    7y = 41 - 6 = 35

    y = 35/7

    = 5
